Today is the first ever World Keratoconus Day!.You can follow the hashtag #WorldKCday on Twitter to see how people are commemorating the day.
Keratoconus is a degenerative eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped cornea progressively thins, causing a cone-like bulge to develop. This results in significant visual impairment.
You can check out more from the World KC Day website:
World KC Day is a national awareness day sponsored by the National Keratoconus Foundation. and dedicated to help raise awareness about keratoconus , as well as educate and advocate for those living with KC.
I’ve been writing a lot about KC and about chronic health issues in general, as you probably already know. It’s been super helpful to me as a form of therapy. You can check out my “KC Diaries” series right here.
In the past few years, the online KC community has changed my life for the better and provided me with so much support. KC is a relatively rare disease, so the community really comes together to support each other and share resources about treatment, insurance and more.
There’s always more work to be done, and the KC community (as well as others with similar visual impairments) could always use more support, so please check out the National Keratoconus Foundation to learn how to help.
